Dear Alabama Riders, I can’t believe that it is over, 2007. Where did it go? It seems like it was just yesterday that we were starting a new year. 2008. There are a lot of big plans that are already being made for this year. As I am sitting down to write this editorial, it is 78 degrees outside. I’m sure that we will have some cold weather before it is over. I hope that we get some rain as well. Mt. Cheaha HD already has big plans starting out with the Geico Dyno Drags Shootout and Harley-Davidson’s Traveling Museum. Also, Full Throttle is joining with the Alabama State Troopers to put on the largest ride in the state of Alabama. Motorcycles will be coming from all corners of the state, escorted by our Alabama State Troopers, into the Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery. There are big plans that I can’t disclose at this time, other than to say that this is going to be one hell of an event. Also, we’re excited about Benefield Masonry, Mt Cheaha Harley-Davidson, Foster Harley-Davidson and Full Throttle magazine sponsoring Sharon Garrison, the daughter of Harold and Mae Foster, for this year’s AMRA and AHDRA racing circuit. Sharon is a very good rider with lots of titles already under her belt. We’re looking for this year to be no exception. We’re going for the title. Also, if you are interested, we are taking on more sponsors to help Sharon in her quest to be the best. You can contact her at Foster Harley-Davidson in Tuscumbia, AL. For some reason or the other, there are some of you, not many, who show great interest in having an ABATE in Alabama. But for the amount of motorcycles that are registered in the state, it is not a very large percentage. We are just not getting a very big response. I don’t know why we are not getting more response. This is something that we desperately need, so let me say that we are going to be putting out all new signup letters everywhere there is a Full Throttle Magazine. So if you are interested, please sign up when you go in to pick up your issue of the magazine. Make sure that you include an email address or some way of contacting you as we try to proceed with putting this together. This is a very complex adventure that is not going to be worth trying to do if we cannot get any response out of the people. This always seems to be the case here in Alabama. People say, “Why am I going to worry about that?” The next thing you know, it will be too late to worry about anything because the damage is done. This year we are really looking to intensify our coverage in the state of Alabama. I think we did a fair job of covering most of the events, big and small, that we were made aware of. If you have an event coming up in Alabama, you must let me know by the 10th of the month prior to the date of the event. At least let us know so that we can put it in the Cruisin’ Calendar, because I have many people tell me they use the Cruisin’ Calendar to plan their weekends. If you want us to attend and cover one of your events, please let us know about it as soon as possible. We try to plan where we are going to be at least six weeks in advance because of arranging our travel or being able to get to another event the next day or getting someone to cover for us. We plan to really be out there this year covering the entire state because I love our state, as well as all of its riders. Ride it like you stole it, |
