FUTURE MAN  ~  FUTURE LADY

This month’s Future Man and Future Lady of the Month are Memphis Lafferty and his seven year-old sister, Claire.

At seven months old, Memphis contracted Bacterial Meningitis. When Memphis was 12 months old, his doctors had no other choice but to perform a quadruple amputation, removing both of his arms and legs in order to save his life.

Memphis is currently a very active and energetic two year-old who adapts to any obstacle thrown in his path. His most recent struggle is accepting and learning to walk with prosthetics and trying to understand why he needs them when he can already move around so agilely without prosthetics.

Claire Lafferty is seven and is destined to be Memphis’ shining star. At five years old, Claire was faced with what most people don’t have to deal with for many years to come, and that was the possible loss of her new little brother. Since the amputation over 15 months ago, Claire has become yet another source of physical therapy for Memphis by playing with him on the trampoline, working on his vocabulary skills and mentoring him in day to day activities through patience and understanding. People only have to see the two together to witness the total love and adoration they have for each other.
