MAN OF THE MONTH My name is Charlie Broome, but you can call me Mr. Charlie. I work at Stone Mountain Harley-Davidson, where I was the very first employee hired in 1998. I am a native of Atlanta and graduated from Murphy High School. I have been riding motorcycles for 55 years and have logged over 300,000 miles. I ride a 1996 FLHT Electra Glide Standard. At first glance it looks like a classic, but it has no radio and an aluminum engine. I was President of the Georgia Cracker Motorcycle Club for three years in the ‘70’s and we put on the Stone Mountain 100 mile National Enduro. I was Captain of the Big Motor Unit of the Yaarab Shrine Temple in 1977 and 1978, and a Charter Life Member of the Potentate Escort Unit. I am a Life member in the American Motorcycle Association and a former field rep. I’m also a Life member of HOG, and Past Director of the Daytona Beach Chapter and Stone Mountain Chapter. I have had Type II Diabetes for nearly 15 years. I keep it under control by taking two pills a day and watching my diet. I have been fortunate enough to be a part of the American Diabetes Association’s Ride To Live Steering Committee for almost 10 years. I feel like I have a vested interest in finding a cure for this disease. Please come out and ride with me on May 10th at the 14th Annual Ride To Live and help me fight Diabetes. You can register at www.diabetes.org/ridetolive. See you there!
