ABATE MONTHLY ARTICLE

Hardly a day goes by without news of a new attack on the freedom of the motorcycling public. These attacks have to be challenged and defeated by the relevant motorcycle rights organization (MRO). Georgia’s MRO is ABATE of Georgia. This organization represents all motorcyclists in the state of Georgia and has been doing so for the last thirty-two years. ABATE is funded by its membership and the support from the motorcycling community.
At the same time hardly a day goes by without a request for the motorcycle community to support some benefit ride or event. Some are for local people who have come on hard times; others are simply people putting on events to make a buck. Most motorcyclists want to help others and support worthy causes and go to events to have fun. While there is nothing wrong with this motorcyclist should remember to support themselves first.
At ABATE of Georgia’s last Board of Director’s meeting (July 11, 2009) several District and Chapter representatives agreed that we should only support those events that in turn support ABATE of Georgia. One motorcycle magazine put it best when they stated “Going home with the one who brought you to the dance”.
ABATE fought hard to make it legal to allow children 16 and under to ride on the back of motorcycles. ABATE fought hard to make it legal for motorcyclists to tag/title their custom bikes. ABATE has fought for over thirty years for the rights of ALL motorcyclists in Georgia. Even so, motorcycle riders today load their children or grandchildren on their custom bikes to ride to and support a charity or money making event while never giving ABATE the time of day.
If this trend continues ABATE will not be around much longer to fight for ALL motorcyclists. Please support the organization that supports you. Become a member. Attend our Swap Meets at the North Atlanta Trade Center. Visit our website at www.abatega.org or give us a call toll free at 866-867-5063.
