The Vortex
Little 5 Points
438 Moreland Avenue

The Vortex has been an Atlanta mainstay since the early 1990’s when it was originally located in the back streets of Mid-Town, Atlanta. Both then and now, this Burger Joint is one of my favorite Watering Holes. With their “No Bullshit” attitude, this is a place to hang out, eat good food and do some people watching. There is a magic here. Opening its doors in 1996 in Little 5 Points, the symbol of the “Laughing Skull” has become a landmark for the area.
At any one time, you can come into the packed Vortex and sitting throughout the bar and grill is a total melting pot of people of all types including: from your punk rocker, your tattooed exotic pin-up model, to your Virginia Highland yuppie. There are suits on occasion, during those lunch rush hours, transitioning into your local 5 icons. There is no judgement, no attitude, just people coming in for a simple but good bar menu and an elaborate beverage selection.
The Vortex’s beer selection is HUGE! Then their selection of liquors and worldwide collection of single malt’s have earned them several local awards including, “Best Overall Liquor Selection in Atlanta”. But before you go to the Vortex, be warned there are some rules the local establishment instills to everyone. Some things you should know before you go, “NO Whining!” The Vortex is referred to as the “NO IDIOT ZONE”, so if you don’t like someone based on appearance, keep your opinion to yourself and go, because this is what the Vortex is about.
When the warm weather hits, Thursday nights are all about the bikes, and I mean all bikes. There are old school Triumphs, Hondas and custom rides. The speed bikes come in packs to the Vortex! Of course, your loyal HOG riders are in the mix too. Generally late spring is when it completely kicks off, but you can bet to see a bike or three at the Vortex on any given day!
