ROADKILLPenguin Drive-In So the spring has proven itself to be a busy time for the Road Kill Crew. I have spent several waking mornings in hotels worldwide over the course of 2 to 3 months from Bangkok, Thailand to Washington DC. However, during one recent stay in Charlotte, not too far from the ATL, I was working late and just needed a place that “fits” me and gets me out of the daily “rat race”. The chef I was working with knew of just the place. He said to me “you go in and it’s not fancy, you may have to wait a bit but they have ice cold PBR and $1 Yuengling on draft or $5 pitchers”.
Anyway, I found this joint and it is just that, a small old ice cream parlor from 1954 converted some time in the 70’s and 80’s into a BBQ house serving up some intense tasties at a huge value! In 2000, the new owners did some revamping and now you can see the “BIRD”, as the locals call it, with a huge following and great success. Brian “Witty” Whitcomb
